Where Will the Displaced Return? – The Disappearing Georgian Trace from Google Earth

While the traces of Georgian villages on Georgia's occupied territories are gradually disappearing, state agencies do not have answers to critical questions regarding what will happen when Georgia regains jurisdiction over its occupied territories. Where will the displaced people return? How will they prove their rights to property? At what stage is the process of land registration in the occupied territories? How is the historical memory of the displaced being preserved while they are still alive? Moreover, a fire in 2014 at the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) allegedly damaged the room where the archive of the 'My House' program was stored, along with the documents necessary for property registration. State agencies are unwilling to discuss this fire with us."
